The 8 moon phases
New Moon (dark, a fresh start) → Waxing Crescent → First Quarter (half-lit, growing) → Waxing Gibbous → Full Moon (fully lit, culmination) → Waning Gibbous → Last Quarter (half-lit, releasing) → Waning Crescent, and back to new. Waxing phases are for building and intention; waning phases are for releasing and rest.

How is the moon phase calculated?
The phase comes from the angle between the Sun and the Moon (their elongation). At 0° the Moon sits between us and the Sun — a new moon; at 180° the Earth is between them — a full moon. We compute both positions from the same ephemeris engine behind our birth charts.
What are the 8 moon phases in order?
New Moon, Waxing Crescent, First Quarter, Waxing Gibbous, Full Moon, Waning Gibbous, Last Quarter and Waning Crescent. 'Waxing' means growing toward full; 'waning' means shrinking toward new. The full cycle takes about 29.5 days.
