How planets and houses work together
If the signs describe howa planet's energy expresses, and the planets are what the energy is, then the houses describe wherein your life it all plays out. A planet's house placement is one of the most telling parts of a birth chart — it points to the exact area of life where that planet's themes come alive.

Frequently asked questions
What do planets in houses mean?
In astrology, the houses are 12 areas of life and the planets are the active forces. A planet's house shows where its energy plays out — for example, Venus (love) in the 10th house (career) often means love and beauty expressed through your public life or work.
How do I find which house my planets are in?
You need your exact birth time and place, because the houses are anchored to the horizon at your birth. The free birth chart calculator on this page shows the house of every planet instantly.
Why are some of my houses empty?
There are 12 houses but only 10 major planets, so several houses will be empty — which is completely normal. An empty house is read through the sign on its cusp and the placement of that sign's ruler.
Which is more important, a planet's sign or its house?
Both matter: the sign shows how a planet expresses (its style), while the house shows where it expresses (the life area). Reading them together gives the full picture.
