What Is a Life Path Number?
June 12, 2026 · 5 min read
If astrology has your sun sign, numerology has your life path number — a single digit derived from your birth date that's considered the most important number in your numerology chart.
What it means
Your life path number describes your core nature, your strengths and challenges, and the overall journey your life is here to take. Each number from 1 to 9 (plus the “master numbers” 11, 22 and 33) carries its own personality, much like a zodiac sign.
How to calculate it
Reduce your birth month, day and year each to a single digit, then add those together and reduce again — keeping master numbers intact. Born on June 15, 1990? June is 6, 15 reduces to 6, 1990 reduces to 1; 6 + 6 + 1 = 13, which reduces to a Life Path 4.
The master numbers
11, 22 and 33 are not reduced to a single digit, because they're thought to carry heightened potential and intensity — the visionary (11), the master builder (22) and the master teacher (33).
Numerology and astrology together
Many people use numerology alongside astrology — your life path number and your birth chart describe your path from two different angles. A life path number calculator does the math instantly, so you can find yours in seconds and start exploring.
